First Baptist Church circa 1963

On July 22, 1955, First Baptist Church began as a fully constituted church. Services began with an organizational meeting moderated by Lewis S. Steed, area missionary of the Inland Baptist Association, in the home of Joe and Irene Ashburn.

Arnold Graham Ashburn was called as Interim Pastor until a full time pastor could be called. After Bobby Vann was called as our first pastor, services were held for several months in the Knight of Pythias Hall and later in the Seventh Day Adventist Church on South Hill. Ground was broken for our own building in the spring of 1957, and we began meeting in the basement in June 1957 for both worship and Sunday School. A parsonage was built in 1958. A second floor which included a sanctuary and more classrooms was started in 1960 and completed in 1963. The basement was then converted to a kitchen, fellowship hall and classrooms. In 1966, the exterior of the building was finished in rock from the surrounding countryside.

In April 1999, construction began on our current ground level sanctuary with our first service in the building being held on Easter Sunday of 2001. A Building Dedication service was held June 3, 2001.

First Baptist Church of Bonners Ferry cooperates with the Silver Lakes Baptist Association, the Utah-Idaho Southern Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
